Stay Hydrated, Auntie!
I like to keep active year-round, but for many people, summertime offers more activity options and certainly more opportunities to get out and play with your nieces and nephews. School is out, so getting outside is a perfect way to spend time - and energy - together. No matter what you’re planning - swim, bike, hike...plan on staying hydrated.
When the temperature rises, it's important to remember to drink plenty of water before, during and after your outdoor activities. If it's particularly hot and humid, try to drink some type of sports drink, fluids that contain electrolytes like Powerade and Gatorade. Replacing the lost fluids and vitamins and minerals that go with them can keep your fun, well, fun!
Fun In The Sun
Preparing to play or practice your sport skills takes just a few minutes.
1. Wear Sunscreen
2. Dress Properly - hat, light polyester clothes (that wick sweat away) are best. Try to avoid cotton if you are going to be really active - spending more than an hour doing something strenuous like biking or hiking or running.
3. Wear Sunglasses - protect your eyes while playing. Also, you will see the ball, woods, et cetera better if you are sporting shades.
Drink It All In
It's always important to drink plenty of water before you go out and play or participate in any sport, but Auntie, always remember to BRING water with you for you and the kids in your life. I like to be hands-free when I am hiking or running. A hydration system like FuelBelt is a perfect choice for Savvy Aunties.
The belts easily attach around your hips with Velcro, come in lots of cool colors and there are belts that have two, four or six bottles. The bottles are the right size for even the smallest hands, and depending on how many kids are with you, everyone can have a drink. While you are swimming, remember to keep water bottles handy as even when kids are cool and wet they sweat!
Stay cool...and hydrated, Savvy Auntie!
