What is: Star Wars: The Clone Wars?
Written By Savvy Auntie Staff Writers
Your school-aged nephew won't get on the phone when you call on Friday nights. And this is the nephew that always got on the phone to talk to you. Don't be alarmed, Auntie. He's probably watching Star Wars: The Clones Wars. And sorry but... it seems to be his favorite show and nothing is getting him away from the TV set.
So, next time he actually does get on the phone, baffle him with your Clone Wars knowledge. He'll think you're the coolest. This just put you over the top! By the way, we asked the good people behind the show to explain it to us. They were kind enough to send this along:
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
The first season of the cutting edge animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars welcomed an entirely new generation of fans into the Star Wars family, with premiere episodes on Cartoon Network ranking #1 on all TV with boys 6-11. Expanding on the foundations established in the groundbreaking first season, Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Rise of the Bounty Hunters continues the classic Star Wars tradition, testing the very limits of our heroes’ noble efforts as they battle for the fate of the galaxy.
Set between Episodes II and III of the live-action saga, the battle for peace rages on. With no end in sight, the war is taking its toll. Though his courage, confidence and skill with the Force have earned him the rank of general and Jedi Knight, Anakin Skywalker’s brash nature and risky decisions often put his life—and the lives of those he loves—in peril. Obi-Wan Kenobi’s disciplined negotiating skills and loyalty to the Republic continue to define his role as the ultimate protector of galactic peace. Captain Rex, Commander of the famed 501st Clone Trooper Battalion, is a proven no-nonsense leader who engenders respect from within his ranks—as well as his superiors. Echoing the influence of her Jedi Master, Ahsoka Tano is eager to prove herself with bold flying maneuvers and aggressive lightsaber skills while remaining a deliberate thinker and exceedingly dedicated to the Jedi way and Yoda’s remarkable insight into the true nature of the Force makes him as wise as he is powerful. Though calm and soft-spoken, Yoda’s illuminating counsel is heeded above all else.
The fight to save the galaxy intensifies as a new breed of villain emerges to take advantage of the wartime turmoil.
Foremost among these new villains is Cad Bane – a heartless blaster-for-hire, mercenary and scoundrel. Like many in his particular trade, he is quintessentially cold, cruel and calculating – but even among his peers, Bane demonstrates a special aptitude for evil. When the price is right, he can’t be stopped – and he’s bringing his unique skill set and impressive arsenal to bear against the very heart of the Republic. Even faced with the power of the Jedi Order, Bane brazenly brings the fight to the heroes’ doorstep, with a formidable rogues gallery of galactic scum as his allies. Count Dooku, once a member of the Jedi Council, now wields the full power of the Force’s dark side. As a demanding, power-hungry and cruel leader of the Separatist forces, it is Dooku’s task to destroy the Republic. With chalk-white skin and long, dangerously sharp fingers, Aurra Sing is the embodiment of evil. A strict task-master and exacting assassin, her loyalties are determined by her own vendettas and the highest bidder. Powerful, cruel and the subject of countless surgical procedures that replaced his body parts with robotic appendages, General Grievous takes joy in inflicting suffering upon others—especially the Jedi.
Fans of the live-action films will recognize some familiar faces among Bane’s motley crew of merciless mercenaries, including the bloodthirsty Bossk (first seen in The Empire Strikes Back) and sinister Aurra Sing (glimpsed briefly in The Phantom Menace, and again in The Clone Wars season one finale).
Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Rise of the Bounty Hunters - Fridays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Cartoon Network.
Now go call your nephew.... We can't wait to hear what he thinks of your Clone Wars savvy, Auntie!
