I do realize that not everything my nieces do is funny, but since I'm not the mom, I can laugh, right?
Like this morning, when my brother had to unclog the bathtub drain because "someone" stuffed several crayons and a pencil down it. Since he babysits Lizzie and Lee Lee and Lee Lee is no where close to being able to get into the bathtub on her own, we can only guess it was Bella and/or Lizzie, but do you think either of them are admitting to it?
No, not likely. Meanwhile, auntie is giggling while her brother grumbles and grunts and hopes Drano will dissolve the ones he couldn't reach and doesn't know about!
On Sunday I was at my mom's when Rue Rue called to tell her about the Christmas tree that had been erected. After chatting with her, Mom gave the phone to me.
"Auntie Phinnie, I have a Christmas tree!" she told me in her delightful little girl voice. I haven't seen her since April and she wasn't this grown up then!
"Did you help Daddy put things on the tree?" I asked.
"Green lights," she replied. "And Elmo and Oscar and the Big Duck!" I had no idea what the Big Duck could be until I heard my sister translating in the background: "His name is Big Bird, Rue Rue, remember?"
"When are you coming to see me, Auntie Phinnie?" she asked. I wish I could answer her; my car isn't going to make another trip halfway across the country!
Saturday night Mom and I babysat Lizzie and Lee Lee while my sister and brother-in-law went on a combo Christmas shopping and night out deal. I can't remember the last time they got out, the just two of them, so I was more than happy to watch the kids while they did their thing.
Lee Lee has decided she's only got time for 30 minute naps, so by mid afternoon she was one cranky baby. Thankfully she stayed asleep once my sister put her down. Even though Lizzie was about to sleep standing up, she wasn't going to miss the chance to play block with Memere and Auntie. She comes up with the funniest things to say! We even got her to eat a big supper - she had eaten little for lunch - and she asked Memere to give her a bath. I read her some stories while Mom rocked her and she drank her milk, and then it was off to bed with a couple burps and baby Sarah, who is my sister's Cabbage Patch from yesteryear.
"Night Night Lizzie; Auntie loves you," I told her ask I kissed her and put the blankets under her chin.
"Night night auntie, I love you," she replied. Such words just choke an auntie up, you know?
She wasn't being so sweet at church earlier in the day. Don't know what got into those two, but Bella and Lizzie were all over church during the service, running back and forth between pews and up the isles. It doesn't help that the other adults in the church think its cute, or that some of them even try to talk to them. Not even I could keep them still; usually they listen to me when they're tired of moms and dads. Not even time outs worked. Thankfully the new pastor wasn't there! lol
